Ok, to have a website you need an address from ICANN, so that folks can find you. ICANNis like the phone book of the internet. You key in an address in your web browser like
www.gothomasville.com ,and it translates the text address into a numerical address registration with
ICANN like 216.156.215.128 and routes your request to our web server. If you key 216.156.215.128 into
your browser address window, it works the same as www.gothomasville.com, but it doesn't require translating
HOSTING
When your request is sent, something has to answer. This is the webserver. The webserver hosting yourdomain stores your content (web pages). It is basically like a computer on a network that sends a
copy of a file to another computer. In fact, it is exactly that.
DESIGN
When the hosting webserver answers the request, it has to send something. It sends a file,just like the one our webserver sent you so you could read it now. This file generally contains
pictures and words, in a design that is, hopefully artistically pleasing.
